2021 Is Going To Be Great For Magento
By Florian Rauchfuss
With 2021 just getting started, it is time to take a closer look at Magento’s roadmap for the year. RLTSquare is expecting great things to happen.
2020 was a successful year for the global e-commerce sector. Covid-19 and national lockdowns forced merchants around the globe to find digital solutions to keep their businesses running. That development will continue in 2021.
Magento is a big player in the e-commerce sector. As of January 2021, the company has a global market share of 3.44% according to Statista. But time does not standstill. Therefore, our favorite e-commerce platform will further evolve in 2021.
This year, Magento focuses on four key areas: headless commerce, innovative B2B capabilities, intelligent commerce, and improved cloud infrastructure.
It is not new that the future of commerce is mobile. With its focus on headless commerce, Magento acknowledges that development. Enhanced PWA features will make the mobile experience of Magento stores better with improved performance as well as faster & easier implementations. The recently released PWA Venia store already provides good support for offline mode and push notifications. Customers and merchants demand such improvements in the platform’s architecture. Magento is listening to that feedback.
The upcoming new B2B features aim for an optimized implementation and shopping process, too. A brand new B2B optimized PWA theme, intelligent B2B price books, and customer groups reflect that goal. An innovative announcement was that Magento is now partnering with an enterprise application integration (EAI) platform to make B2B e-commerce projects simpler and quicker. Chances are high that the implication process will become much smoother within the new year.
62% of customers on Magento powered stores purchase product recommendations. The same number is 25% on Amazon. Product recommendations and a personalized shopping experience will become even more important in 2021. Therefore, Magento will introduce a visual AI, a new algorithm that delivers visually similar items in a catalog. An additional feature will be search powered by AI, allowing merchants to implement their marketing logic on product recommendations.
Magento’s cloud experience is another key pillar for platform improvements in 2021. The cloud infrastructure is getting revised to boost scalability, performance, and reliability. Therefore, in the second half of the year, next-generation hosting solutions will be available. The changes in the cloud infrastructure are going to make the overall implementation processes much easier. Simplified updates, more guardrails & checks to ensure seamless migrations, and increased support responsiveness ensure that.
Furthermore, live streaming will become more essential. Recently, the feature experienced a boost due to the situation around Covid-19. Improved communications with the customer base is a must need for all online businesses in 2021.

For sure is that in 2021 the Adobe Summit will be another milestone. Like in 2020 as well, the event will be digital-only and completely free. Good for us that the session schedule is already published. Stay updated on the website of the summit: https://summit.adobe.com/na/.
